Hi. I'm Marla. And I'm 25 years old.

Save your Drama for Yo Mama

I wonder if they should change that phrase to:

Save Yo Mama from the Drama

Except that it might be difficult to achieve, considering that each of us have a mother with varying levels of drama...

But listen kids, I had to get my drama from somewhere.  This kind of stuff doesn't just arrive in the mail on some random weekday.  It's takes a lifetime of growing.

Here is a poem that my Mama took the liberty of changing in order to voice a little drama:

The tires on my bike are flat.
The sky is grouchy gray.
At least it sure feels like that
Since Eva went away.

Chocolate ice cream tastes like prunes.
December's come to stay.
They've taken back the Mays and Junes
Since Emily went away.

Flowers smell like halibut.
Velvet feels like hay.
Every handsome dog's a mutt
Since Eva went away.

Nothing's fun to laugh about.
Nothing's fun to play.
They call me, but I won't come out
Since Em'ly & Eva went away.

Funny thing is, I could've written the same thing.  Because I miss her so much too which causes a little drama to trickle down, start a stream that quickly turns into a rushing river.  See, the Kucera family doesn't do well when immediate family members live far away.  It's not in our genetic makeup.  We are Minnesota people.  We live here with countless others who have been born here and then we never leave.  We never. ever. leave.

And that's just how it is.

The End.

It's Baaaaaaaaack!

Winter storm warning

15 inches of snow in one day

Yep.  People live here on purpose.  And they actually like it.

And my Dentist* didn't believe me...

"A growing body of research shows that people with red hair need larger doses of anesthesia and often are resistant to local pain blockers like Novocaine. As a result, redheads tend to be particularly nervous about dental procedures and are twice as likely to avoid going to the dentist as people with other hair colors, according to new research published in The Journal of the American Dental Association.

Researchers believe redheads are more sensitive to pain because of a mutation in a gene that affects hair color. In people with brown, black and blond hair, the gene, for the melanocortin-1 receptor, produces melanin. But a mutation in the MC1R gene results in the production of a substance called pheomelanin that results in red hair and fair skin."

I told you I wasn't being a drama queen!!

Take that.  See Emily, we aren't being babies.  It's our genetics.

And to my other sisters, the next time you try to pull out one of my gray hairs and I scream, remember this article.  (me = redhead = more pain = more screaming).

* Not this dentist... he's the BEST and I will never switch. It was my old dentist and he just kinda laughed at me and then kept on drilling.

Eva & Utah & Food

Some random stranger just came up to Eva and
gave her a Twinkie! Crazy!
Diamond rings for Valentine's day.
Also, chocolate ganoche cake at the
Chocolate Cafe in West Jordan. YUM!
I found out that you CAN INDEED have a
ball with a shopping cart and a parking lot.
I thought about it. Then remembered that wacko lady
who tried to mail a puppy to her son.
Gosh.  She is so darling.
Eva & me, on a rare occasion that
she slowed down. My little Valentine.
Don't you think they could be the poster for Park City?
I love this candid shot.
She is happy on the shoulders of her Daddy.
What a fabulous trip!
I love my family and my friends and my life.

PS Special thanks to Dan for all his quotes.  My favorite:
"Marla, I will not be intimidated by your blog.
I will not censor what I say."

The 'Just Say No to Walking into Walls' nightlight (TM)

Ok guys & gals, I need to know which nightlight you would order for a certain person in your family who has a tendency to walk into walls in the wee hours of the morning.

Choice #1:  A classic choice. Squeeze!
Choice #2:  Glowing blocks.  Weird, but ok.
Choice #3:  For the believer in you.  Let's be honest,
this is a bit freaky.
Choice #4:  A Monkey. Who looks like
a bit guilty/sneaky.
 Choice #5:  Rechargeable aliens.  Huh.
Choice #6:  Sock Monkey.  You can't go wrong
with sock monkeys.
Choice #7:  Firefly nightlight.  Creative.
Hey Emily, it's Dad here,
do you want to go catch a nightlight with me?
Choice #8:  Uhhhhh..... what's with the creepy sheep?
So what do you think?
Any winners?  Or should I just
comes back in stock?

Don't Throw Rocks at His Window

My dear friend Julie wrote a book! And she has a website!

Check out her new book here.  I'm sure more will follow.

I went to Deseret Book and grabbed my copy.  Then I went back today and got another one.

It's a quick read and it's PERFECT for tweens.  It's got the most darling graphics and dashingly witty commentary.

They did a little teaser in the online mag LDS Living - check it out here.

I've never thrown rocks at anyone's window.  But I have done a few things.  We'll save that for another post.   Maybe in an anonymous blog in Bolivia or something.

No, Really. The Groundhog bit Bill Murray.

Phil: You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

Have a favorite holiday?

Groundhog Day is mine, hands down.  Love it.  I love the movie, I love Bill Murray, I love the life lessons.... I love it all., go to Trivia and be amused.

My favorite:  Bill Murray was bitten by the groundhog twice during shooting. (TWICE - must've been a really pissed off groundhog).

Wonder what one does about a groundhog bite?

Anyway, February is a perfect time of year to reassess what the crap we are doing with our lives.  It's easy to let things slide, to be consumed in a a daily routine without really considering the big picture.  Winter won't last forever, even though it feels like it.  Spring will come again.  It always does, every year.

So curl up with a blanket and a hot cup of dark chocolate cocoa and enjoy a movie that really has nothing to do with  groundhogs.

Happy Groundhog Day!

Kermit Freaks Out Because of Snow.

Makes me laugh.

Snow got you down?  See Kermit.  Muppety arms flailing.  Flying his freak flag high.

What a surprise the snow on Monday morning.  Didn't even know it was coming.  But we had a full house in Seminary.  We even had a few specials guests -- Hope, Bishop, Lynn and Jeff-ers (my bro).

We discussed these scriptures from Doctrine & Covenants section 83:

4 All children have claim upon their parents for their maintenance until they are of age.
5 And after that, they have claim upon the church, or in other words upon the Lord’s storehouse, if their parents have not wherewith to give them inheritances.

What a lovely way to start the day.
